A bill to define a framework for Non-Profit Organization (NPO) is in the offing to regulate the sector.
As a result, a consultative forum has been held in Koforidua to solicit inputs of players in the sector into the draft bill as part of processes leading to the adoption of the bill.
Mr Dela Ashiagbor, the Director, NPO Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection, said the bill would consolidate activities of NPOs within the framework.
He said the sector was fraught with several challenges including transparency and accountability and that it was important to have a solid framework to regulate its activities.
Currently, about 10,000 NPOs or non-governmental organizations are licenced by the Secretariat, but a lot more are working without any licence or recognition from the Ministry.
Mr Ashiagbor indicated that to get input from all, the consultative fora would be held nationwide.
